Meiji-Portraits

This website contains information on individuals who influenced the Meiji era in Japan through their work. It presents both Japanese citizens who went abroad for further education and foreign nationals who were active in Japan, the so-called oyatoi gaikokujin. The focus of the database is the period from 1868 to 1905. In addition, the biographies and a chronology of the Meiji period are linked to philatelic items. The companies in which the individuals worked are also included. A search function allows users to search all information on individuals and companies in full text.

本ウェブサイトは、その活動を通じて日本の明治時代に影響を与えた人物に関する情報を提供しています。ここには、さらなる研鑽を積むために海外へ渡った日本人と、日本国内で活躍した外国人（いわゆる「お雇い外国人」）の双方が含まれています。このデータベースは、主に1868年から1905年までの期間を対象としています。また、人物の伝記や明治時代の年表は、関連する郵便資料（切手や郵便物など）でイラストとされています。さらに、当該人物が勤務した企業に関する情報も収録されています。検索機能を利用することで、人物や企業に関するすべての情報を全文検索することが可能です。
